Flea Medicine
Flea medicine is one of the things you should have in your home, there are several products on the market but they tend to all do a similar thing, they aim to stop the discomfort felt by your pets when they have fleas, you may notice our pet biting its self or scratching excessively when they have fleas, this is because a flea bite is very irritating and a single flea often bites its host more than once.
The second action is to prevent further flea bites to your pets, as we have said the fleas produce multiple bites and just a small number of fleas can result in a large number of bites in a very short period of time and the dog or cat can cause itself a fair amount of discomfit with the excessive scratching and nipping at its own fur.
The third action of most of the flea medicine available on the market is to act as a pesticide that works on fleas and spreads from flea to fleas, this is a great feature as it turns your pet into an effective flea killer around your home.
Vets often recommend that you use a series of three treatments to kill of the flea infestation on your pets, these can be used on either cats or dogs, there are medications that claim to target all aspects of the flea killing trilogy but it is often best to use the three specific treatments to ensure the maximum effectiveness when it comes to killing fleas.
If you have a pet other that a cat or dog that is suffering from a flea problem or has been bitten by the irritating parasites you will need to take some advice from your vets as the best treatments to follow as most of the popular treatments are aimed at the more popular and abundant pets such as cats and dogs, more unusual or exotic pets will need specialist advice when it comes to treatment.
As fleas jump a long way and live in carpets and soft furnishings the flea medicine is not the only aspect of your war on fleas in your home, you will need to kill off the fleas that are all over your home rather than just on your pets.
To this end you may like to use products such as flea bombs and flea foggers, these use some quite toxic chemicals that are also flammable so you must be very careful when using the flea foggers and flea bombs, you need to ensure you follow the instructions that you get with the products. The flea foggers spread a chemical cloud around the area that you are treating and this is able to penetrate deep into your carpets, furniture and curtains, these are all places that fleas may be hiding. The fogger chemicals are also able to penetrate the shell of the flea eggs and stop them hatching out to become more adult fleas.
Once you have killed of any fleas in your home and on your pets and ensured that the eggs are dealt with you must continue with a flea treatment regime as part of being a responsible pet owner, in every pet owners home should be flea medicine so they are ready for the next infestation.
