Fleas in the home are most likely to be pet cat fleas, these fleas can cause disease and should there for be killed as soon as discovered, the flea bites will cause your pets and yourself discomfort. Cat fleas do not just target your pet ca as they will also bite dogs, people or any other warm blooded animal, the bites can become inflames and irritable for two weeks.

Fleas often enter your home in the fur of your pets, the fleas who are excellent jumpers, bread and feed in the fur, it is the blood that the flea feeds on and this biting will cause discomfort to you and your pets, you may notice your cat biting and scratching itself more, this can be a good early indicator that your cat has fleas. The cat fleas aim primely to feed on your cat but in reality they will take any opportunity to feed that they can. Some people when bitten develop allergies this can cause a simple bite to develop into a much more serious problem.

If you suspect that you have a flea bite and you feel unwell or are suffering in anyway it may be advisable to consult your doctor as allergies or disease can become quite severe if not treated in timely way by a professional.

If you do notice that your cat has fleas you may need to use a combination of treatments to rid your pets of the fleas. An initial course of an anti flea medication such as Advantage or front line should be followed up with a flea bath for your cat. You should also comb your cats fur with a pet cat flea comb when you have treated them, this is because the dead fleas will need to be removed from the cats fur.

You may find that if your cats leave the house a lot or interact with other animals that you suffer from regular infestations of fleas, there are several things you can do to help prevent these future infestations of your home. You need to treat your cat as described above with the cat flea bath and the anti flea medication from Advantage or front line, dehumidify your home, this makes it a less hospitable place for the fleas, it lengthens the egg stage of the flea development cycle so you will have less adult fleas reproducing in your home. Placing flea repellents at likely entry points to the home will reduce the chances of more fleas entering, once you have done this then removing the existing fleas should be th next step.

Flea sprays and foggers are a quick ray to remove a flea infestation from your home, they can take a while to set up and you need to ensure that there are no people or animals in the house when you use them as the chemicals they use are quite severe, although they do work extremely effectively and quickly to kill of the fleas. If you are not keen on the use of such severe chemicals in your home then flea food traps are another option, they are slower to work, but they do not require you to leave your home although unlike the foggers you will have to live with the pet cat fleas for a while longer.
